Police in Virginia have charged nine people, including five juveniles, in connection with the death of a Maryland girl who was reported missing in December.
Fairfax County Police in Virginia said Wednesday that the body of 15-year-old Damaris Reyes Rivas was found Saturday in Springfield, Virginia. The medical examiner ruled that Reyes Rivas, who lived in Gaithersburg, Maryland, died from trauma to her upper body, and her death was a homicide.
Police say the suspects, who are charged with abduction and gang participation, held Reyes Rivas against her will, assaulted her and killed and left her body near Lake Accotink Park.
The nine people arrested range in age from 15 to 21. A 10th person, a 16-year-old girl, remains at large.
