Boulder County crews are responding to a grass fire in the foothills west of Boulder along Wagonwheel Gap Road, according to county officials.

Approximately 157 homes have been evacuated, according to a tweet from Boulder County. County officials also tweeted that the fire is three to five acres in size.

Boulder County Division Chief Robert Sullenberger told reporters this morning that the fire started at 7:50 a.m.

Sullenberger said winds are expected to reach 70 mph today.

Across the county, people are reporting downed power lines and downed trees, according to police radio traffic.

This is the second fire to pop up within Boulder County this morning. Crews are also fighting a large grass fire in the 5000 block of Nelson Road, west of Longmont. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is ordering the evacuation of about 125 homes in the area, with another 29 being placed on pre-evacuation alert.

The Boulder Office of Emergency Management has been activated to respond to the fires, the office tweeted this morning.
