One of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office K-9s is getting a bulletproof and stab-proof vest thanks to a donation from a non-profit that outfits law enforcement dogs.

Kingston is one of five dogs in the sheriff’s K-9 unit and is certified to detect drugs as well as search buildings and apprehend suspects.

The sheriff’s office was able to buy the vest through a donation from Vested Interest in K9s Inc., a nonprofit based in Massachusetts.

The vest, which will be custom made and weigh 4 to 5 pounds, will take another eight to 10 weeks to come in.
