Chelsea Clinton and Kellyanne Conway traded sharp Twitter jabs Friday — with the former first daughter mocking President Trump’s counselor for inventing a terror attack and the White House aide firing back how the Clinton’s “lost the election.”
“Very grateful no one seriously hurt in the Louvre attack … or the (completely fake). Please don’t make up attacks,” Clinton tweeted Friday morning, the day after Conway appeared on MSNBC to defend Trump’s immigration order.
“I bet it’s brand new information to people that President Obama had a six-month ban on the Iraqi refugee program after two Iraqis came here to this country, were radicalized and they were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre. It didn’t get covered,” she said on “Hardball.”
Conway apologized Friday morning, saying she misspoke.
But then, egged on by conservative journalists, she fired back at Clinton’s salvo, mocking her mother Hillary as a loser.
“Bosnia lie a Great reminder. And 2 @ChelseaClinton & others, you can’t ‘invent’ quality candidates either. I misspoke; you lost the election,” she tweeted after Weekly Standard reporter Mark Hemingway reminded her of Hillary’s false claim that she had to dodge sniper fire on a trip to Bosnia.
Conway said she was actually talking about the case of two Iraqis — Waad Ramadan Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi — who lived in Bowling Green, Kentucky after being granted refugee status and entering the US in 2009.
They were busted in May 2011 on terrorism charges and were sentenced two years later after pleading guilty to supplying weapons to jihadis in Iraq.
“On @hardball @NBCNews @MSNBC I meant to say ‘Bowling Green terrorists’ as reported here,” her tweeted clarification read, including a link to an ABC report on the case.
“Yep. Everyone should read the ABC News article. On my twitter feed. Instead of creating memes & phony outrage. It’s a dangerous world,” she wrote to James Taranto of the Wall Street Journal, who had thanked her on Twitter for bringing up the case of the Iraqis.
Clinton has not responded to Conway’s taunts.
