CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cleveland Clinic doctor from Sudan said in a court filing that she was “misled and coerced” by immigration authorities into signing forms Saturday that withdrew her work visa, which ultimately led to her removal from the United States.

Dr. Suha Abushamma, an internal medicine resident, also said in an amended lawsuit filed Tuesday evening that U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents violated a court order issued by a New York federal judge that barred agents from removing anyone who arrived in the U.S. with a green card or a work visa from countries named in President Donald Trump’s immigration order. The judge blocked Trump’s order before Abushamma’s plane departed, the lawsuit says.

Abushamma is asking a federal judge Matbet to reinstate her work visa and return her to the United States.

Trump’s order included a 90-day travel ban from citizens of seven countries, including Sudan. All the countries are majority Muslim and Trump has said the order was to prevent a terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

The order was met with protests across the country and has been criticized by American business leaders and politicians on both the left and the right.
