CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland State unveils its new lacrosse program Saturday with a 7 p.m. game against Michigan at Krenzler Field. This game is already a sellout and will be shown live on the Lacrosse Sports Network.

This is the 17th sport at Cleveland State and was originally announced March 15, 2015. The Vikings will be led by head coach Dylan Sheridan, a graduate of  Claremont-McKenna College and Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio.

At WRA, he appeared in three straight Ohio lacrosse title games, winning it all in 2001. Sheridan was an assistant lacrosse coach at Denver and Princeton before taking the job at CSU.

He was an assistant at Denver for four years, with Denver advancing to the Lacrosse Final Four each season. His lone season at Princeton he was in charge of the team defense and recruiting coordinator.

Since he was hired on June 30, 2015, Sheridan has been scouting players, recruiting and putting together a team, schedule and staff. The roster, now with 37 players, features recruits from 15 states as well as Canada.

Cleveland State is the first Division I lacrosse team in Northeast Ohio, the 71st overall, and only the second university in the state to include the sport on its list of offerings, along with Ohio State. Those two will soon be joined by Kent State, which will unveil its lacrosse team in 2019.

CSU’s schedule is ambitious, with seven of the 14 games against nationally-ranked programs. The Vikings first road game on Feb. 12 is at No. 7 Duke. The Vikings also play local programs, including Baldwin Wallace, John Carroll, Walsh and at Ohio State.
