Baltimore Democrat Nathaniel Oaks has joined the Maryland Senate.
Oaks, who was a member of the House of Delegates, was recommended by the Baltimore City Democratic Central Committee last month. He was sworn in Friday, after Republican Gov. Larry Hogan approved the recommendation.

He has been a delegate since 1995. He previously served in the House from 1983 to 1989.
Oaks will represent Northwest Baltimore in the Senate.
