CLEVELAND, Ohio — Before he shot Greedo first and before he responded to declarations of love with a stone cold “I know,” Han Solo was a young scoundrel piloting a freighter across the galaxy alongside his trusty Wookiee first mate, Chewbacca.

That story is now being put to film as Lucasfilm announced Tuesday that principal photography has begun in London on the next “Star Wars” anthology movie.

Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (“The Lego Movie”) marked the first day of shooting by posting a photograph of the cast, including Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson as Garris Shrike, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clark (“Game of Thrones”) and British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Thandie Newton (“Westworld”) is also in the principal cast along with Joonas Suotamo, who donned the Chewbacca suit as Peter Mayhew’s body double in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and now takes over the role full time.

“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” Lord and Miller said in a blog post. “We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”

The untitled Han Solo “Star Wars” story lands in theaters on May 25, 2018.
