CLEVELAND, Ohio — Shaker Heights native Carter Bays along with his producing partner Craig Thomas are hoping to duplicate the success of their legend-, wait for it, dary sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” with a new comedy on CBS.
The network has given “My Life,” written by Hilary Winston (“Bad Teacher”), the green light to go to pilot, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Bays — who peppered HIMYM with Cleveland references for nine seasons — and Thomas will produce an episode of the new show to present Adiosbet to network executives, who will then decide if it’s good enough to order more and for a spot in the primetime lineup.
“Real Life”” Life” is based on the web series “7P/10E,” about two co-workers on opposite coasts who develop a relationship over Skype. The new show will explore what happens when they end up working in the same office.
If any of this sounds familiar, the show was developed for pilot season last year under the name, “My Time/Your Time” but not picked up.
It’s the second pilot in the works for Bays and Carter. They’re also working with comedian Chris Distefano on a show about an Italian-Puerto Rican mixed family, according to Variety.
As for a HIMYM spinoff, the idea isn’t dead yet. While Bays and Carter’s “How I Met Your Dad” from a couple years ago was not given the go ahead, a script based on the idea called “How I Met Your Father” is being developed by the writers of “This Is Us.”
