Stay off the road, stay home. Ice is no respecter of vehicle, tires, or people. It's not worth the risk tonight.

Longmont is currently on accident alert because of slippery roads, and police are responding to several accidents in the city.

“We are asking people to stay home,” Deputy Chief Jeff Satur said. “The roads are very slick. We are on accident alert, and we are working several crashes.”

Accident alert means people are asked to exchange information with one another if they are invovled in traffic crashes with no injuries, impaired or uninsured drivers and vehicles that are not impeding traffic and report the crash at a later time.

Boulder dispatch reported slippery roads, but the city is not currently on accident alert. The Colorado State Patrol is reporting icy road conditions in much of the northern part of Colorado and is a likely factor in numerous crashes.

In Boulder County, numerous crashes are being reported, and the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a tweet that Colo. 66 is closed in between Lyons and Longmont is closed near the 32 mile post because of downed power lines.

The National Weather Service in Boulder is also advising people not to drive if it is not necessary.

In Longmont, icy conditions contributed to a single-car crash on Ninth Avenue at Wade Road about 5 p.m. this evening. The vehicle involved ran into a utility pole, knocking out power to the neighborhood in the area and the traffic light at Ninth Avenue and Airport Road. There were no injuries.
