Some people like their steaks well-done despite the overwhelming consensus that well-done steaks are overcooked. That said, some people are turned-off by red or bloody meat — and some people (like our president) just prefer the taste of a well-done steak. What kind of person are you?

PERSPECTIVES

The bottom line is some particular cuts of meat are not meant to be cooked well-done. You can choose to eat it that way but there are other cuts of meat that would taste the same.

I guess the TLDR is that high quality steak cuts aren’t the right meat for doing well done in the same vein that Ahi Tuna shouldn’t be cooked well done. You can buy Ahi Tuna at $30.00/lb so why would you cook it so that you couldn’t really tell the difference between that and the tinned stuff with the little dolphin on it in the 80’s. Nothing wrong with tinned tuna, I personally love it, but I’m not buying a tin for $22.00 each nor do I want to waste the time and effort it took to catch, butcher, preserve, and rush deliver sushi quality fish only to pressure cook it and slap it between two pieces of white bread. If you do that, its a matter of when, not if, someone is going to ask why their tuna sandwich costs $50.00. Comment from discussion Hank Hill knows what’s up.

People like what they like. Pressuring someone to eat a certain way is snobby and kind of pointless. You’re the one eating it. So what if well-done steak is “wrong,” some people just like it that way.

In defense of the well-done steak:

If you’re the sort of posturing, insufferable cad who throws a ghastly fit whenever he hears the phrase “steak, well-done”, then you are a condescending suck-merchant. You think you sound like a connoisseur, but the rest of us know you’re just an insecure buffoon plagiarizing your pro-red talking points from an old Chowhound thread. Don’t be a condescending suck-merchant. Stop whining about well-done steaks.

Here, Gordon Ramsay explains why well-done steak is bad while ripping a reporter a new one.

Ramsay owns an asshole reporter.

Ramsay’s not the only person to hold strong opinions about well-done steak.
