Lafayette City Council on Tuesday appointed member Jamie Harkins to serve as the new mayor pro-tem, filling the role left vacant by Gustavo Reyna’s resignation earlier this summer.
Harkins was picked 4-3 through a closed-ballot vote, beating out councilmember Stephanie Walton.
Ahead of the vote Mayor Christine Berg thanked both councilmembers for applying for the position, adding that “it’s a good problem to have that this is a hard choice.”
Harkins garnered the most votes when she was elected last November and her term is scheduled to expire in 2021.
She serves on Lafayette’s Cultural Arts Commission, Energy Sustainability Advisory Committee and Audit Committee, according to the city’s website.
