Laurel Canyon Boulevard between Kirkwood Drive and Mount Olympus Drive in the Hollywood Hills is set to be closed in both directions Saturday so workers can prepare to reopen the road that was made unsafe due to recent rain-sparked landslides and mudslides, officials said.
Currently southbound Laurel Canyon is open, but northbound traffic is being detoured to Laurel Canyon Road (also known as Little Laurel Canyon) between Kirkwood and Mount Olympus.
Start time for the Saturday closure was not given, but the work is expected to start early so the project can be completed that day, said officials from the city of Los Angeles Emergency Management Department.
During the closure, officials explained, crews will remove the K-rail barriers and re-stripe the roadway, which could involve a “significant” amount of noise.
The closure and detours have been in effect since Jan. 11, when part of a home’s concrete foundation and patio in Laurel Canyon slid down a rain-soaked hillside onto the street below.
Additionally, nearby Laurel View Drive reportedly remained closed on Monday after a landslide on Jan. 30.
