The life expectancy of the belgian population was 81.8 years in 2019, according to an analysis of mortality data carried out by the belgian office of statistics, Statbel, reported Tuesday in a press release. The period studied was not yet affected by the pandemic Covid-19.

According to Statbel, the life expectancy at birth increased by 0.3 years for the whole population, which is a bit more compared to the increase of 0.1 year observed in 2018. The belgian office of statistics indicates that life expectancy at birth now stands at 84 years for women, whereas men reached 79.6 years.
