CLEVELAND, Ohio — If your Valentine will be spending the holiday gluten-free, and you’re hoping to surprise him or her with a special treat, look no further.
I searched the Internet (while developing a major sweet tooth) looking to find some of the best local bakeries that offer made-to-order gluten-free treats. Check out some of my favorite choices.

Aunt Rita’s Bakery: This bakery specializes in gluten-free and wheat-free bakery items and is a dedicated gluten-free facility. There is no store, as all items are made-to-order and can be picked up in Highland Hills. All product options can be found here.
Bouche Bakery: This dedicated gluten-free facility offers custom cakes, cheesecakes, cupcakes and even special heart cakes. Call, message, or stop into the Lakewood bakery for your order.
Cafe Avalaun: This Warrensville Heights shop offers muffins, scones, biscuits, danishes, cookies, bars and pies. You can place your custom order online 3-5 days before it is needed.
Colossal Cupcakes: This store, located downtown and in Westlake, usually has at least one gluten-free option available in-store. There is also an option to request a custom order via the online order form.
La Bella Cupcakes: This shop offers a gluten-free cupcake option. It notes on its website that the gluten-free cupcakes are not made near the regular cupcakes but are made in the same kitchen. Orders are made online and must be placed a day and a half before delivery. There is a $8 delivery charge. There is no storefront, so all orders are via delivery only.
The Cute Little Cake Shop: This store offers a variety of gluten-free options. Gluten-free cupcakes in a jar are available at the Strongsville location Thursdays through Saturdays. Flavor options are available here. There are also many items available made-to-order. These include cake balls, cupcakes and cakes.
The Gluten-Free Bakeree: This Lakewood made-to-order bakery offers pick-up at its store. This 100 percent dedicated gluten-free facility offers cookies, biscotti, cakes, cupcakes, truffles, pies and tarts. The owner requests 2-3 days’ notice on orders, but preferably more during the holidays.
Vegan Sweet Tooth: This Woodmere bakery offers gluten-free cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, muffins and scones. The store is also offering a few Valentine’s Day specials, which include chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate heart cakes and sugar cookies. They recommend that you order early, as the specials sell out each year.
Ventito Bakery: This Avon bakery offers a variety of gluten-free options, including cake, cinnamon muffins, cupcakes, brownies, cannoli, cookies and fudge. All items can be custom ordered online.
Have you tried any items from these bakeries? If so, would you go back again? Let us know in the comments section below.
