CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland man has been charged in connection with a Feb. 4 armed robbery of a West Side cellphone store.

Tarence Ashford, 25, was charged with aggravated robbery in a warrant filed Monday. He is not in police custody.

Ashford was one of two men who robbed a Verizon Wireless store on Triskett Road, just north of Lorain Avenue, on Feb. 4, according to a charging document. Ashford and the other man walked into the store about 1 p.m. and asked an employee about phones, a police report states.

The robbers put on masks and forced the employee into a back room. The duo demanded that the employee hand over cash, the report says.

The employee gave the robbers $400 from the safe and $200 from the store’s cash register, the report says. The robbers also took the employee’s keys before leaving the store.

Investigators identified Ashford as one of the robbers through surveillance video from the store, as well as a Crime Stoppers tip, the court document says.

The second robbery suspect was also identified in the Crime Stoppers tip, but he has not been formally charged.
