The new-look Oak Meadows Golf Course in Addison soon is expected to have a new name.
Commissioners with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County are going to vote next week to authorize the 288-acre property to be renamed “The Preserve at Oak Meadows.”
Officials say the new name reflects the transformation that has happened at Oak Meadows, which is nearing the end of a roughly $16.8 million improvement project. That work included restoring the portion of Salt Creek that runs through the site and consolidating two golf courses into a single 18-hole facility with greater flood resistance and more stormwater storage capacity.
Ed Stevenson, acting executive director for the forest preserve district, says the Oak Meadows project is a marriage between conservation and recreation.
“Like any good story, there are multiple chapters,” Stevenson said. “This property is on the cusp of what is really a new era and a next chapter.”
If approved, it won’t be the first time the property has been renamed.
Oak Meadows, which was constructed in the 1920s, originally was called the Elmhurst Country Club. It got its current name after the forest preserve district acquired it in 1985.
The Preserve at Oak Meadows name is expected to be promoted in an advertisement that will appear in the guide for the upcoming Chicago Golf Show.
Meanwhile, the golf course is slated to reopen this summer.
