CLEVELAND, Ohio — Who will be crowned the 2017 Paczki King and Queen? It’s a yearly question in the Polish community – one that’s answered at the annual Paczki Ball hosted by Kiedrowski’s Simply Delicious Bakery in Amherst. This year’s ball marks the 20th annual paczki party for the bakery founded in 1984.
It will be held Sunday, Feb 19, from 5 to 10 p.m. at DeLuca’s Place in the Park, 6075 Middle Ridge Road, Lorain. Tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for children (12 and under), $350 for a table, on sale now at the bakery and by calling 440-282-2700. The event always sells out – as do their paczki on Fat Tuesday – so get yours now if you’re ready to polka.
This is no ordinary ball. In addition to all the delicious pre-Lenten donuts you can eat, the party will also feature a traditional buffet dinner with sausage and sauerkraut, cabbage and noodles, potato and cheese pierogi, green beans with bacon and Polish sweet bread.
The highlight of the night will be the crowning of the Paczki Ball King and Queen and the annual Presentation of the Paczki – with boxer shorts and bathing suit clad couples parading around the room with their prune, apricot, sugar, rose and poppy seed treats.
Ed Klimczak and his Band of Renown will provide the polka. You provide the drinks at the BYOB event. Pop and coffee will be available.
Kiedrowski’s is at 2267 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst They will begin selling paczki at their bakery 10 days before Fat Tuesday, which is Feb. 28 this year. Their five flavors are apricot, lekvar, rose, poppy seed and their signature traditional paczki.
