Panamanian authorities have launched a series of raids in connection with the mysterious death of a Columbia University graduate from upstate New York, according to a new report.
The country’s National Police force conducted the searches in the Bocas del Toro province to gather information on how Catherine Johannet died over the weekend at the popular tourist site, La Prensa newspaper reported Tuesday.
Results from her autopsy were expected within hours, the paper said.
The body of Johannet, 23, was found sprawled across a wooded trail on Bastimentos Island around 2 p.m. Sunday after she had vanished three days before.
Johannet had made a day trip to nearby Colon Island, but never returned to Bastimentos.
Her hostel reported her missing on Thursday morning.
The Ivy League grad hailed from the small town of Greenville, NY. Her family declined to comment on Tuesday.
