CLEVELAND, Ohio — Police are asking the public for help in an armed robbery of a sandwich shop on Cleveland’s West Side.

The incident happened Tuesday at a Subway on Clark Avenue near West 33rd Street on the border of the Ohio City and Clark-Fulton neighborhoods, police say.

The robber walked into the shop just before noon and headed straight for a cashier. He held a beanie hat in his hand and “acted like he had a gun inside,” a Cleveland police report says.

The man told the cashier ‘I have a gun, give me everything before I start shooting,’ the report says.

When the employee leaned over to hand the man nearly $300 in cash, a manager intervened and asked the man if he could help him, police say.

The robber shoved the manager and sprinted out the door, police say.

A witness later told police that he saw the man slip a pistol into his waistband as he made his getaway, the report says.

That same witness identified the robber by a nickname saying the man sold drugs to him in the past, the report says.

Detectives with Cleveland police’s Second District asked the public for help in identifying the robber, who they said regularly frequents the Clark Avenue and West 32nd Street area.

Anyone with information should contact 216-623-5218.
