CLEVELAND, Ohio — What is it about “The Good Place” that earned it a surprise renewal from NBC last week? And is “Saturday Night Live” right about “Westworld?” Plus, what are Jerry and the gang up to over on TBS?
Here are MyTV picks for the week.
THE GOOD PLACE
(Streaming on Hulu)
Apparently I’m not the only one who thinks Kristen Bell is a national treasure because her low-rated freshman comedy from Mike Shur (“Parks and Recreation”) was just picked up for a second season. Bell plays Eleanor, a terrible person on earth who is mistakenly sent to “The Good Place” instead of hell after she died. Ted Danson is Michael, the architect of the afterlife who has a twist or two up his sleeve.
“WESTWORLD”
(HBO, HBO GO)
“Westworld” is basically “Jurassic Park” but with robots in the Old West instead of dinosaurs in the jungle. In fact, both were created by Michael Cricton and both explore the consequences of when humans try to play God. The show is slow at times, but always keeps you guessing. Will the “hosts” start to feel and become self-aware? Who is the Man in Black? Is the maze basically the hatch on “Lost?”
“THE COMEBACK” EPISODE OF “SEINFELD”
(TBS, Tuesday at 6 p.m.)
What do you do when somebody insults you and you can’t think of a good comeback until it’s too late? If you’re George Constanza, you come up with an elaborate scheme and travel to another state just say it. “The jerk store called and they’re running out of you!” But what happens when the insulter has a comeback for your comeback? This episode is just gold, Jerry. Gold!
