Two off duty cops were involved in a tragic car accident late Wednesday night on City Island, leaving one dead and another seriously injured, police say.

Another off duty officer was driving home from the Rodman’s Neck shooting range in the Bronx when he spotted a red Dodge Durango flipped over and on fire near the traffic loop on Park Drive, cops say.

The good Samaritan cop pulled over and rushed to extract the driver from the flaming vehicle, and sustained some burns to his own person in the process.

Both the good Samaritan cop and the driver were transported to Jacobi hospital. The driver is listed in serious but stable condition.

It is unclear from initial reports if the civilian car had been struck by another vehicle or if the damage done to the SUV was a result of a collision with trees inside the traffic circle.

The off duty officer in the passenger seat was pronounced dead on the scene.

It was not immediately clear where the off duty officers were coming from or traveling to.

The incident is currently under investigation and no arrests have been made.
