President Trump on Thursday demanded an apology from media outlets publishing damning stories about his administration –and vowed that the “lowlifes” behind the leaks would be caught.
“Leaking, and even illegal classified leaking, has been a big problem in Washington for years,” Trump said in a morning tweet.
“Failing @nytimes (and others) must apologize!” he continued.
In a follow-up tweet, Trump took aim at those within his administration.
“The spotlight has finally been put on the low-life leakers! They will be caught!” the president said.
Trump did not specify which leaks riled him up Thursday morning.
But earlier this week, he called for his national security adviser’s resignation after not telling the truth about phone calls he had with a Russian official. On Wednesday, he blamed Michael Flynn’s downfall on unfair treatment by the press.
The content of those phone calls — between Flynn and a Russian official — appear to have been revealed by unauthorized leaks within the government.
