Assault, S.O.M. Center Road: At 9 p.m. Jan. 30, police were called to Arby’s restaurant, 6375 S.O.M. Center Road. There, a manager, a 22-year-old woman, reported that she had told an employee to clock out because of slow business.

The employee, a Bedford man, 18, became upset. He threw a store phone and began damaging property. When the manager used her cell phone to call the store’s general manager, the man took the manager’s phone and threw it, and pushed her.

The man was arrested and charged with assault.

Assault, Solon Road: At 7:30 a.m. Feb. 1, police were called to All American Moving & Storage, 29001 Solon Road. The business’s manager, a 36-year-old man, told police he had a disagreement with an employee, a 23-year-old man, about pay. The employee was told to leave, but instead attacked the manager.

The manager had injuries to his face and ankle. The employee was charged with assault.

Theft, Hillside Lane: At 9:30 a.m. Jan. 27, a Solon man, 48, went to the police station to report that he and a business partner were the victim of a scam.

The man told police that he and his partner were investors with a third party in Mississippi on a shipment of chicken and pig feet that were being sent from Brazil to China. The man wired $3,780 to the Mississippi man, to an account at a Houston bank.

It turned out that no shipment was made and that the account at the Houston bank had been closed. The party in Mississippi has been unreachable. Detectives are investigating.

Improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, US 422: At 7:55 p.m. Jan. 28, an officer spotted a car found to be traveling 77 miles per hour in a 60-miles-per-hour zone. A traffic stop was made and it was found that the driver, a Warren man, 48, had a suspended driver’s license. In addition, a handgun was found in the car.

The man was charged with speeding, driving under suspension and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Fleeing and eluding, US 422: At 9:40 p.m. Jan. 28, an officer observed a car traveling eastbound at 83 miles per hour in a 60-miles-per-hour zone. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the car’s driver would not stop.

The driver then called 911 and told the dispatcher that he did not want to stop his car while on the freeway. The driver, a Mantua man, 36, eventually stopped about one mile into Bainbridge Township.

The man was charged with speeding and fleeing and eluding.

OVI, Harper Road: At 10:45 p.m. Jan. 28, police stopped a car that was being driven 75 miles per hour in a 60-miles-per-hour zone. The driver, 55, of Garfield Heights, was found to have bloodshot eyes. An open can of beer was on the front passenger seat.

The man performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was later found to have a blood-alcohol content of .125, above the state minimum for drunk driving of .08.

The man was charged with speeding, prohibited BAC and OVI.

DOA, Aurora Road: At 8:30 a.m. Jan. 30, police were called to an address where a 16-month-old baby was not breathing. The boy was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Initial investigation reveals no signs of foul play. The detective bureau will work with the medical examiner’s office to follow up on the death.

OVI, Derby Downs Drive: At 2:15 a.m. Jan. 31, an officer came upon a parked, running car that had its hazard lights activated. Behind the wheel was a Solon man, 18.

The man was intoxicated. His car had front-end damage, he said, because he struck a snow bank in Bainbridge. The man was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .98.

Police charged the man with OVI and prohibited BAC.
