BAY VILLAGE, Ohio – February 14 marks not only Valentine’s Day, but National Donor Day as well.
Cousins Matty Geib, 22, and Jack Hickey, 9, of the Cleveland area have a story from their 2015 transplant that can’t be missed.
When Jack was 7, his stomach started to hurt. That’s when his parents, Dave and Tiff Hickey, took their son to Fairview Hospital.
The doctors there saw something so bad in Jack’s liver that they sent him to the Cleveland Clinic right away.
The Clinic told the family Jack had cancer and cirrhosis of the liver. He needed a transplant.
Cousins from Dave’s side of the family, including Matty, began calling in to add their name to the list.
Shortly after, Matty was told he was number one on Jack’s list of available donors.
Their journey is told in the video above.
