CLEVELAND, Ohio — Two people were injured in unrelated hit-and-run crashes within hours of one another in Cleveland, police say.
Police have not announced any charges in the incidents and both crashes remain under investigation.
The first crash happened about 4 p.m. Saturday at East 74th Street and Superior Avenue on the border of the city’s Hough and St. Clair-Superior neighborhoods.
A 911 caller told dispatchers that a car struck a man in the area and took off, leaving the man lying in the street, according to police dispatch records.
The man, described as approximately 60 years old, suffered a head injury and slipped in and out of consciousness, records say. A medical student helped him at the scene until paramedics arrived and took him to University Hospitals for treatment, records say.
Police went to at least two nearby homes to search for the vehicle and also reviewed surveillance footage from an area gas station, records say.
The second hit-and-run happened about 10 p.m. on Bennington Avenue near West 130th Street in the city’s Puritas-Longmead neighborhood.
A 911 caller reported seeing a small dark car strike a man in the street and then drive off with heavy front end damage, records say.
Officers stopped and searched a car on the next street over. Records did not say whether police determined if the vehicle was involved in the crash.
Paramedics took the victim to MetroHealth for treatment of his injuries, records say.
Police have not provided further details on the pair’s current medical status.
