WASHINGTON – The final vote on Betsy DeVos for Education Secretary has been pushed back until Monday, as many GOP lawmakers are heading to Florida this weekend for a fundraising event, according to The Hill.

A procedural vote is scheduled for Friday, so the final vote on the evenly-divided nomination could have taken place over the weekend.

But GOP aides believed there would be an “attendance issue” with a Saturday vote.

The aides disputed, however, the Monday vote had anything to do with planned Republican fundraising getaway at The Breakers hotel in Palm Beach.

DeVos can’t afford any GOP senators being absent.

Two Republican senators already announced they don’t think DeVos is qualified and will vote “no” on her nomination.

No Democrats have signaled they’d support her nomination, so DeVos’s confirmation would be sunk if one more Republican defected.
