CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland’s Capitol Theatre celebrated Groundhog Day a day early with their special showing of the 1993 film Groundhog Day on Feb. 1.

The film was presented as a part of their Reel Science series, which takes place at the start of each month. Reel Science movies include a pre- and post-show discussion about the scientific aspects of a film, led by a Cleveland Museum of Natural History employee.

In the theater’s lobby, the museum had an informational booth where two stuffed groundhogs were on display. Some visitors took pictures with the creatures.

There are groundhogs in the Capitol Theatre! (Stuffed groundhogs, that is.) This is part of the Reel Science event, where moviegoers watch a film and discuss the science of it afterwards. Today’s film: ‘Groundhog Day’ starring Bill Murray. Tomorrow is the actual Groundhog Day! Although much of the discussion at the event revolved around groundhogs, there were some questions about the space-time continuum that played a big role in Groundhog Day.

The next Reel Science event will take place March 1, with a showing of The Fly.
