AKRON, Ohio – Where does Merriman Hills end and Northwest Akron begin? And what’s High Hampton? The Planning to Grow Akron report drew 24 distinct neighborhoods, with median home values that run from $48,000 to $233,000.

While researching its Planning to Grow Akron residential housing report,  the city asked Akron residents to participate in drawing their own neighborhood boundary lines on MyAkronNeighborhood.com.

The city took that data and redrew the lines to help package neighborhoods by their best features. Where boundary lines were in dispute, the city’s Department of Planning and Urban Development made the call, said Director Jason Segedy.

As a result, Akron now has two more neighborhoods, with the addition of:

  • Coventry Crossing, near Firestone County Club; and
  • High Hampton, which is the old North Hampton Township

Both areas were annexed by Akron in the late 1970s-early 80s.

And, as borders were redrawn, some neighborhoods were divided in two because of their unique features. Those are Highland Square, which had encompassed West Hill, and Northwest Akron, which had included Merriman Hills.
