A veteran worker at the city’s Department of Environmental Protection has admitted swiping 11,328 pounds of metal from a Brooklyn sewage treatment plant worth $13,700, according to a settlement released Tuesday.
Thomas Maloney, a sewage treatment worker since 2002, admitted in a settlement with the Conflicts of Interest Board that he removed the metal from the Owl’s Head Wastewater Treatment Plant in Bay Ridge over a 22-month period, from January 2015 to October 2016.
On Nov. 29, Maloney pleaded guilty in Brooklyn Criminal Court to petit larceny, agreeing to perform 7 days of community service and resign from his post.
He earned $123,323 last year, including overtime.
As part of the settlement, Maloney agreed to resign, pay back the $13,700 and accept DEP’s prior imposition of a 65-day suspension that cost him $15,904 is lost wages.
