CLEVELAND, Ohio — Shake Shack is perhaps the Ikea of burger joints.

Like fans of the Swedish furniture company, devotees of the New York-based chain are passionate about the brand. They’ll wait in long lines and travel long distances just to bite into one Shake Shack’s tasty burgers or sip on one of their thick milkshakes.

But unlike Ikea, Shake Shack is actually coming to Cleveland.

The restaurant, the chain’s first in Ohio, will be part of Stark Enterprises’ planned nuCLEus project, The Plain Dealer reported. Shake Shack will occupy a 3,000-square-foot space in the mixed-use development in the Gateway district downtown.

It could open as soon as 2019.

Shake Shack’s popularity among fast-casual burger aficionados is rivaled perhaps only by In-N-Out Burger. Known for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers, crinkle fries, decadent shakes and concretes, it began as a singular stand in New York City’s Madison Square Park in 2004. Today, there are 100 locations around the world.

“Yessssss Shake Shack,” wrote Amber Steck on cleveland.com’s Facebook page. “(Heart emoji) Shake Shack! Can we get the same view as Central Park? LOL,” another reader posted.
