A loud “Huh!” echoes this Tuesday morning over square of Republic. Then applause follows. So once Icelandic football fans had cheered in hearts of football fans worldwide. But this time it is not about Icelanders, but about Armenians who have copied providers this cheering. And it is not a question of athletic success, but of great politics.

After weeks of protests, Armenia has a new premier. “Nikol, Nikol”, his name repeatedly echoes place where tens of thousands waited for outcome of vote in Parliament. It is great hour of 42-year-old member Nikol Paschinjan, who in a few weeks has become undisputed hero of Armenians by an opposition politician among many. “The revolution in Armenia seems to affect people just like ecstasy,” jokes a political scientist from capital Yerevan. “Paschinjan has given people belief that y can change something.”

Within a few days, former journalist and opposition politician had taken off his suit and his tie-and got a rustic beard for it. He exchanged his shirt for a T-shirt in Tarnfleck. His cap with slogan “Duchow”, which means “only courage”, has become a hallmark.

What has now finally become a peaceful revolution began with a march of opposition from city of Gyumri, in northwest of Republic. At end of Yerevan was a major rally in capital, against old President Serzh Sargsjan, who was just preparing to become a premier. After two terms of office and a constitutional amendment that strengns role of prime Minister and demotes president to a symbolic figure, Sargsjan wanted to extend his power.

What was initially considered hopeless by many oppositionists in country became a mass movement. Above all, it became clear how big rage has become about hunger for power of old elite. Suddenly tens of thousands of people protested in Yerevan and put on ir fellow citizens. At a school, students forced a corrupt school director to resign. And even from Russia or United States, thousands of Armenians flew and fly to ir homeland to be re, with what is in ir eyes star hour of ir country.

Paschinjan managed to put himself at top of this Wutwelle. The 42-year-old has skilfully managed to present himself as a counter-draft to ruling regime, which in Armenia is mainly associated with corruption, nepotism and economic stagnation. Paschinjan, on or hand, was able to convince him that, even after his arrival as a member of Parliament, he was not illegally enriched six years ago. Unlike rulers, he does not love luxury cars, but is content with a Hyundai Sonata, which he has bought on loan according to his own specifications. The fact that his son, like many young Armenians will make military service from a simple situation, also collected Paschinjan points.  Media have now baptized him as Che Guevara of Caucasus, but he repeatedly stressed peaceful course of protests.
