Kyrgios : “A decision is stupid to play this exhibition”
Asked to comment on the situation, the american player, Noah Rubin, said Monday, in the columns of L’equipe : “It was inevitable. They lived their life as if nothing had happened. I don’t understand why the tennis needed to take this risk. What good is it to make the people smile and the raising of money if it is to infect a thousand people ?”. Nick Kyrgios has blasted on Twitter, the decision “stupid” to play for this exhibition. “This is what happens when one does no protocol”, he added. Learning Tuesday the positive test for Djokovic in the coronavirus, the Australian is again expressed, indicating : “My prayers to all players infected. It is no longer worthwhile to mention my actions as acts irresponsible or stupid. This overcomes everything”.
The Brazilian Bruno Soares, member of the board of the players, also prevailed against the Adria Tower and its organizers. “It was a spectacle of terror, he responded in the columns of Globo Esporte. It was irresponsible and immature. With the current world situation, even if you are at the North pole, you do not go out to party and you do not post the photos on Instagram. It is a lack of respect for what is happening in the world. This event has been organized with irresponsibility absurd”. Same sound of bell on the side of the British Daniel Evans : “This is a bad example to give. Even if the recommendations were those of a return to normal in this country, I would have still tried to keep the most possible of my distances with the other. And I think that there has been a total neglect of this point of view”.
Boutter defends Djokovic
in the Face of this outpouring of criticism, Novak Djokovic has made his amends, on Tuesday, in a press release (“All we did was serve to unite and share a message of solidarity (…) We were wrong (…) I am deeply sorry to each of these new cases”). He was also able to count on the support of other players of tennis, who reject the responsibility on other people. This is particularly the case of Feliks Lukas, director of tournament in Croatia and now in Zadar for the Adria Tower, which explained yesterday in The Team : “The responsibility rests entirely with the federation of Croatian. They knew that the ATP and the WTA had decided on a policy of huis clos (…) I don’t blame Novak and his team. They do not decide the rules in Croatia”. This morning, Frenchman Julien Boutter, always in the columns of the daily sports newspaper, who came to the rescue of the Serbian player. “From the time he has validated his event, I find it hard to understand the controversy of the ‘he’s right, he is wrong’, shows in particular the head of the Moselle Open. this is not as a organizer who was badly mounted of a tent, and where his negligence is directly proven (…) If he was within his rights, if he has followed the sanitary rules of his country, and that the players did not come to a knife under the throat, it is not open to criticism”.
