Gran Via station will remain closed until 2019

Closes Line 1 between stations of Tribunal and Sun

Metro de Madrid will reopen this Thursday, stretch of Line 1 of suburban understood between stations of Tribunal and Sun, which has remained closed since past day 22 with work of removal of asbestos from Gran Via station.

The work carried out, reports Metro in a press release, is framed in plan of desamiantado of suburban, in which Community will invest 140 million euros until 2025 to remove all traces of asbestos from all facilities of Metro network.

These works have been carried out in parallel to those being developed to renovate Gran Via station, which will continue closed for lines 1 and 5 until April of 2019.

For next Sunday planned is also re-opening of last section that remained cut off from Line 9, between St. Cyprian and Arganda of King, and station of Banco de España on line 2.

With opening of this last stretch of Line 9 all seasons will serve as normal after completion of renovation of roadway to improve safety rates, availability, comfort, signaling systems and power and communications systems.

At station Banco de España-Line 2 y have carried out works of modernization and improvement of station and reinforcement and waterproofing of tunnel.

Sources of Metro have reported that company has accelerated plan of removal of asbestos from underground network, so that to end of 2019 all of rolling stock of Metro will be free of asbestos.

The plan of removal of asbestos from Metro also includes performances of desamiantado in 15 stations, and or facilities, some of m are still running.
