Investigators were trying to determine this morning how a body of man ended up near the on-ramp of Highway 101 at Atherton Avenue in Novato.
Emergency responders were called out to the scene at 1:05 a.m. to the bottom of the on-ramp where they found a man who apparently been struck by a vehicle, according to the CHP.
The man was pronounced dead by paramedics. Officers searched the area but found no vehicles that may have been involved in the collision.
They did find parts from a vehicle that may have been involved, but have no definitive make or model, the patrol said. Officers said they believe the incident may have occurred between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m.
The on-ramp and the slow lane of the highway were closed until 4:30 a.m., the CHP said.
