Easton Hospital announced the addition of a palliative care program to its list of services.
Palliative care provides specialized medical care for people of any age during any stage of serious or chronic illness. It is provided together with curative treatment and focuses on relieving the symptoms and stress of the illness.
“The goal of Palliative Care is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family,” Karen Vadyak, chief nursing officer at Easton Hospital, said in a statement.
Hope for heartburn sufferers
Palliative Care specialists do not replace the patient’s doctor; rather, we partner with the patient, his or her family and other healthcare providers to control symptoms and help patients understand their treatment options so that they can formulate their goals,” added Chand Rohatgi, M.D., medical director.
Palliative care consultations, covered by Medicare and most insurance companies, also focus on management of symptoms.
