The Hollywood Bowl announced its summer season schedule today. There will be a pre-season concert by French band Phoenix and British pop/rockers The Lemon Twigs June 15, with an official opening night show starring The Moody Blues and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra June 17.
As in previous years, composer John Williams will host three evenings of his movie music. As well, David Newman and Justin Freer will conduct fan-favorite films with live orchestra series for Williams’ scores of “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” The annual “Sing-A-Long Sound of Music” is returning and there will also be fireworks nights, including a July 4th concert with Pentatonix and “Fireworks Finale: The Muppets Take the Bowl” Sept. 8-10.
There will be a selection of big music events, such as “Jazz at the Bowl,” toasting 100 years of Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie, the KCRW’s World Festival series with Solange, Ziggy Marley, Blondie, Garbage, Pink Martini and more and the fully-staged musical “Mamma Mia!” Plus there is a long list of concerts slated, including Bryan Ferry, Gipsy Kings, Diana Krall, Dave Koz, Jewel and Common.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic will be celebrating its 96th season at the Hollywood Bowl with Gustavo Dudamel conducting “Stars of the Ballet,” “Harmonium with Mozart’s Requiem” and a night of Wagner. Tony Bennett will join Dudamel and the Philharmonic for the first time July 14 and 15. Bennett will also be in concert with Lady Gaga May 31.
