Hundreds of people gathered outside a City Council Finance Committee meeting Wednesday morning to support Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant’s motion to divest from Wells Fargo, a major funder of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The City Council chambers were full of speakers and listeners speaking in favor of divesting the city’s $3 billion contract with Wells Fargo. Demonstrators also gathered outside City Hall to Favoribahis support the divestment.

The action comes after the Trump administration announced that they would be grant the Army Corps permit without an environmental study. Currently the proposed plan would route the pipeline through the land of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

This is the latest in a series of demonstrations from Seattle’s Defund DAPL group, which has demonstrated outside the Wells Fargo building twice in the last month. If the committee approves of the ordinance, it will move onto a vote at the full council next week.
