Jeannette Police continued to investigate the shooting of a 23-year-old man Thursday.
Police and ambulance units were called to an apartment at 3 S. 12th St. after the incident was reported about 1:35 p.m.
The man was shot in the back, according to a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher. Police said he was transported by ambulance to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville.
Officers at the scene said they couldn't release the victim's name or any additional information because of the ongoing investigation. Police Chief Shannon Binda could not be reached for comment.
Neighbors along 12th Street declined comment.
A state police helicopter briefly searched the neighborhood.
No one was reported to be in custody by late afternoon.
