SAN ANTONIO — A man who police say had just attacked his mother’s boyfriend with spiked brass knuckles and a shovel was seen by neighbors Wednesday covered in blood, standing over the victim in a West Side neighborhood.
Officers responded to the attack around 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of 28th and Menchaca Streets, where they found the bloody suspect and the victim lying on the ground, according to neighbors.
Sgt. Ramiro Garcia said the son, who is 23-years-old and may have mental issues, thought his mother’s boyfriend was hitting her. Police say the boyfriend is younger than the son by about one year.

“The fight started inside and it continued outside,” Garcia said. “[The suspect] used a few objects. The brass knuckles, a shovel. I’m not sure what else. It was quite a fight out here.”
Garcia said the mother, who’s age was not specified, got between the two to stop the fight.
Police took the victim to University Hospital and arrested the son.
A neighbor, who declined to give their name, said the woman’s son regularly does drugs in plain sight of the neighborhood, and sometimes reenacts scenes in which he kills imaginary people.
The neighbor said they were woken by “horrific” screaming this morning. When they looked outside, they saw the son wearing a yellow shirt that was covered in blood, and a man lying on the ground.
