WOODLAND HILLS >> Los Angeles police arrested a motorist allegedly armed with a gun Wednesday morning after a nearly 1 1/2-hour chase across the San Fernando Valley.

After taunting police with stops and starts across the 101 Freeway and on surface streets from Woodland Hills to North Hollywood, the man emerged from his Honda Odyssey and surrendered, according to TV footage of the chase.

A balding man with a beard was handcuffed at 11:22 a.m. on Sherman Way near Coldwater Canyon Boulevard after lying prone in the street with his hands outspread, KTLA Channel 5 reported.

The chase began shortly after 10 a.m. in North Hollywood when the man was seen with a gun in his waistband, according to news reports. He then led cops on a police pursuit onto the 101 Freeway toward to Woodland Hills and back across surface streets in the southeast San Fernando Valley.

Every so often, he would stop his white minivan and allow police to emerge from their cars with guns drawn, before moving forward to resume the chase.

The driver reportedly managed to avoid a police spike strip on Sherman Way.

“Possibly a man with a gun. There’s a pursuit. It started at about 10:05 a.m. They’re on the 101. We don’t have any details yet,” said Officer Aareon Jefferson, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department, before the arrest.

There didn’t appear to be anyone else in the van after it was searched by police. The California Highway Patrol was called to assist in the chase, a spokeswoman said.

Police have not yet identified the suspect of the morning pursuit.
