The robbery was reported at 10:48 a.m at Verizon, 1001 S. Broadway, Wind Gap.

The suspects are being described as one being 5 feet, 8 inches in height and the other, 6 feet, 2 inches in height. Both wore ski masks over their faces.

Police have obtained store video surveillance footage and hope to release photographs later Thursday.

One suspect displayed a handgun and tied a clerk’s hands behind his back. Both suspects then ordered the clerk to provide the combination to the safe, where cellphones were kept, police said.

The suspects ordered the clerk into a back restroom and fled through a back door. Police believe they ran from the scene. The employee then fled to a gas station on South Broadway and called police.

Police believe the robbers made off with 40 to 45 cellphones, along with an undisclosed cash deposit made from the night before.

There were no reported injuries in Thursday’s incident.

Cellphone stores in Lehigh and Northampton counties have been tied to a number of crimes in recent months, including the homicide Nov. 21 of Michael Davis outside his Palmer Township home.

The 25-year-old worked at Verizon at 301 Town Center Blvd. in Forks Township, which was robbed at gunpoint Oct. 29. The store manager was assaulted and abducted Nov. 22 outside his home, also in Palmer. In both Palmer incidents, the assailants were two men.

Those with information on the Wind Gap Verizon robbery are urged to call the Slate Belt Regional Police Department at 610-759-8517.
