OAKLAND — Police have closed a portion of a San Francisco Bay Area freeway amid reports of a gunman in the area.

The California Highway Patrol has closed eastbound Interstate 580 in Oakland as they search for an “active shooter.” Police are asking people to avoid the area.

Nearby residents and businesses were also being asked to shelter in place.

Television station KRON-4 reports (http://bit.ly/2leWEJR) that gunshots have been heard in the area.

There are no reports of injuries.
