Port of Seattle CEO Ted Fick tendered his resignation Thursday.

Port of Seattle CEO Ted Fick resigned Thursday during a special meeting of the Port Commission, with few details about exactly why.

“We accept the resignation of Ted Fick, and acknowledge his desire to return to the private sector,” said Tom Albro, commission president, in a news release.

In his resignation letter, Fick didn’t say much more about why he was resigning.

“Over the past several months, I have come to the realization that my talents and strengths are better suited to the private sector, where I plan to return,” he wrote.

Fick offered to give more than double his required notice and remain with the Port until May 31, though it’s unclear how long he’ll stay.

Chief operating officer Dave Soike will serve as interim CEO. Little else was revealed in the three-paragraph news release.

Fick had been placed on paid administrative leave Jan. 27, with only “personnel issues” cited as the reason.

The $350,000-a-year CEO was cited last April for allegedly driving under the influence, less than two years after assuming the post.

By 3:30 p.m., Fick’s page on the Port website had already been taken down.
