For San Antonians who don’t have a trip to Europe planned this summer, the city will be bringing Europe — or at least its traffic circles — to you.
But starting today, it first will detour vehicles around San Pedro Avenue between Quincy Avenue and Main Street, as it builds a traffic “roundabout” project that is part of the 2012-2017 city bond program.
The San Pedro closure is expected to last until Kolaybet July and will be followed by other closures on Main and Navarro, according to the city transportation department.
The project includes reconstruction of the confusing five-leg intersection of San Pedro and North Main. It will raise medians, install 10-foot shared-use paths to improve bicycle and pedestrian movement, and include landscaping and a public art component.
A public pre-construction meeting about the roundabout will be held Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Central Library, 600 Soledad. The city’s project team will be available to answer questions.
