With a series of brief speeches outside the courthouse in Belvidere, Warren County’s longest-serving sitting freeholder on Thursday afternoon officially launched his campaign for a sixth consecutive three-year term.
“From the very beginning of Warren County,” Rick Gardner said, “people believed in common-sense aspects of governing, and that’s where I am today.”

With Gardner, of Franklin Township, was White Township Mayor Holly Mackey, who kicked off her own campaign for Warren County clerk.
A who’s who of area Republicans gathered to cheer on the candidates, with more than one speech invoking the recent inauguration of Republican President Donald Trump.
The other members of the three-person freeholder board praised Gardner as the board’s senior member. They also said that there will be no tax increase in the county’s budget this year.
The two New Jersey state senators representing the county, Mike Doherty and Steve Oroho predicted “overwhelming” victories for Gardner and Mackey.
