A 69-year-old Rohnert Park woman hit by a vehicle Saturday night while crossing a Petaluma street has died of her injuries and Petaluma police have identified the alleged hit-and-run driver.
Linda Bartizal was hit at 7:30 p.m. as she crossed South McDowell Boulevard at Caulfield Lane. She was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and died Sunday morning, said Petaluma traffic Sgt. Ron Klein Tuesday.
The woman was in a crosswalk and apparently walking against the traffic light. She was hit while in the northbound lane by a van and knocked about 50 feet. The woman driving the van stopped briefly then drove off, witnesses told police.
Officers have identified the woman driver and still are investigating, Klein said.
Bartizal had been staying with friends in that area of Petaluma. Why she was out for a walk wasn’t known, Klein said.
“They left to go to dinner and for some reason she decided she needed to go somewhere.”
