The state Department of Transportation (WSDOT) may yet reopen at least one of the state’s cross-mountain passes Thursday.

WSDOT sent out an update Thursday afternoon that it tentatively planned to reopen Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass later in the evening, with an update scheduled for 6 p.m.

All three cross-mountain passes — Stevens, Snoqualmie and White — remained closed Thursday after heavy snowfall caused slides and high avalanche danger that hadn’t improved overnight.

The last time all three passes were closed was 2008, and 1996 before that, according to WSDOT tweets.

A major snow slide first closed White Pass Wednesday, but then worsening conditions drove the state Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to close Snoqualmie and Stevens.

At least 51 crashes were reported Wednesday across the three passes prior to closure.

US 12 over White Pass and US 2 over Stevens Pass were scheduled to remain closed Thursday night, according to WSDOT.
