Actor and activist George Takei went to Los Angeles City Hall Monday evening to speak out in support of Muslims in the United States.
The “Star Trek” actor presented a Care2 petition containing over 300,000 signatures to leaders of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC).
Takei was joined by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and other city officials at the event.

The actor, who was forced into a Japanese American internment camp when he was a child, started the online Care2 petition in an effort to denounce President Donald Trump’s Executive Order banning entry into the U.S. of nationals from seven majority Muslim countries.
Takei said he started the petition to make sure Americans are never again forced into internment camps.
“I have spent my life trying to ensure something like this never happens again,” he wrote on the petition, adding, “National security must never again be permitted to justify wholesale denial of constitutional rights and protections.”
