Outdoor Project, an online portal for planning travel and rugged activities, said Tuesday it has raised $2 million in an initial funding round.

The Portland company’s backers include the Oregon Angel Fund and Cascade Angels, two organizations that invest in early-stage technology companies. Outdoor Project said it will use the money to hire five more employees; the company currently employs six.

Outdoor Project features photos, maps and guides to tell travelers what to expect on mountain bike trails, remote hiking trips, and at public campgrounds. The company says it has nearly 200 active contributors submitting information to its website.
